World Elder's Day on 1st October 2010

Let us instill in our children the compassion and respect for old age.

The World Elder's Day is celebrated on October 1st every year. Traditionally, this day is held in honor of the elders. No one can deny the fact that they would have grown as productive citizens in their respective walk of life, had it not been for the care and help of the elders. Let us, on the 2nd of October, collectively come forward and give atleast some of them, the gifts that they expect the most - talk and spend quality time with them. In a nutshell, do something to make them feel happy.

We plan to celebrate the 'Joy of Giving Week (26th September - 2nd October)' with a few elders of an Old-age home on the 2nd October(Gandhi Jayanthi) at around 5.00 PM. The details of the venue are given below. We would like to share with them some home-prepared food items like lemon rice, plain rice, papads, sambar, plain curd, any vegetable fry, vegetable curry, sweets, fruits, biscuits etc. Since the intention is to make them feel happy, we felt it would be better to make some home-prepared food rather than ordering food from a restaurant. Further more, during the process of preparing food at home, our little child members would also understand to essence behind this event. Volunteers willing to bring in home-made food preparations may call Mr. C. Satish Kumar (9885396501), who would coordinate on the items that would need preparation before 7 PM on Friday, the 1st of October, 2010. This would also help ensure that no two volunteers bring in the same item and hence avoid wastage.

Volunteers who cannot prepare food at home and wish to help them in some way can bring in items like coconut oil, bathing and washing soaps, washing powder, tooth paste, pain relievers like zandu balm or moov or amruthanjan or any other non-perishable items that would be of use to them.

The dinner for the seniors starts at 6 P.M and we request all volunteers to be present at the venue by around 5 P.M.

We invite like-minded people to join us.

About Sri Satya Sai Seva Ashram

Sri Satya Sai Seva Ashram in Kondapur, Ranga Reddy District, Andhra Pradesh is an Old-Age Service Home which has been in existence for the past thirteen years. Besides providing food, shelter and clothing to 15 seniors, the ashram provides services to elders in many ways. Being a religious oriented venture, bhajans and prayers form some of the important activities here. Twice a week, a voluntary physician attends to the health problems of the residents. The service includes diagnosis, prescription and distribution of medicines too. The residents are chosen if they are active and capable of taking care of them-selves. All services and facilities are free while contributions are welcome. Let us congratulate Ms Shanti Kumari (23005634), who has started this ashram and has been taking care of the elders.
